About LobbyingFirm.com

LobbyingFirm.com is a plain-English reference for people thinking about hiring a lobbying firm. Most writing about lobbying is built for journalists and watchdogs — who spent what, on whom. This site is for the other side of the table: the nonprofit director, association executive, growing company, or local government trying to understand how the industry actually works and whether hiring a firm makes sense.

Why this site exists

The lobbying industry is needlessly opaque. Pricing is hidden, contracts are long, and almost nothing is explained for the buyer. We think an informed buyer is a better client for everyone — so we explain the industry in straightforward terms, point to the public records you can check yourself, and tell you when you don’t need a firm.

Who’s behind it

LobbyingFirm.com is published by Lobbyit.com, a federal lobbying and government-relations firm founded in 2009. Editorial lead is Paul M. Kanitra, founder of Lobbyit.com, who has spent more than a decade representing associations, nonprofits, companies, and local governments before Congress and federal agencies.

Our editorial standards

  • Sourced to public records. Figures come from primary sources like OpenSecrets and the U.S. Senate’s lobbying-disclosure data, and are cited on the page.
  • Estimates are labeled. Where no official benchmark exists — lobbying-firm pricing, for example — we say so and present ranges as indicative, not quotes.
  • Kept current. Pages carry a “last updated” date, and we revise them as thresholds, figures, and rules change.
  • Honest about Lobbyit. We use Lobbyit as a worked example of one firm’s approach, clearly labeled. This is not an independent ranking of firms, and we don’t claim Lobbyit is “the best.”
